The Tree of Life hovers above a single luminous pearl in the corner. Or is it a serpent’s egg—its smooth surface concealing not purity but the seed of something darker? The image raises an unsettling question: do all living things possess a propensity for good and a capacity for evil, as governed by the Tree of Knowledge? Can outer beauty mask an ugly heart, just as inner radiance may be trapped within ugliness, shadow, or sin? It is a tension reminiscent of Baudelaire, who wrote of beauty as a paradox—at once divine and decadent, sacred and corrupt, forever entwined with the forces it seeks to transcend. Here, that duality becomes visible: the eternal dance between innocence and temptation, creation and downfall.
