The image of the woman as a symbol of fertility, pregnancy, and motherhood is as old as modern humanity. Across centuries, this projection of the ‘ideal woman’—nurturing, devoted, and unfailingly docile—was endlessly reproduced. The Madonna became the ultimate model, her beauty serene, her obedience unquestioned. Like most ecclesiastical iconography and texts, these narratives were authored by men, crafted to establish hierarchy, prescribe behavior, and contain female agency. In this work, the image begins to fracture: the Madonna ideal is revealed not as a timeless truth, but as a construct—one that conceals, limits, and ultimately distorts the complexity of real women.
